1984

I painted this in high school. In the forehand is a 13th or 14th century Turkish ruin, the Minarat (tower) was being manned by Soviet soldiers looking for defectors from the cruel Soviet Union. And the mountain in the back ground is Mount Ararat, the highest mountain in Turkey where Noah's Ark was supposedly found. Courtesy of "Life Magazine."

1984

Back in 1984, the Cold War was on

And the stakes were high

But I couldn’t serve

Because I was a long- haired guy

I guess opportunity doesn’t necessarily knock

If you are long- haired because you gotta Rock

I tried to raise a Freedom Loving militia

But the only ones who gave a damn

Were  God, the devil and the Great Horned Beast

The resulting fictional World Wars which raged

Inside my handsome head

Were every bit as evil

As the hairpocracy  “witch”  spawned them

The lesson which could be inferred is this;

If long- haired Marijuana smokers

Can’t fight for America

THEN PLEASE DON’T DRAFT THEM!!

Back in 1984,

I had a female friend

Whose hair was every bit as long as mine was

She was able to serve in the U.S. Military

And went on to be a success in Life.

Meanwhile I hunted sarge with my mythological knife

Needless to say, my pathways were rife with strife

I’d rather be dead than red (communist).

Yet, I’d also rather be dead

Then suffer a state- sponsored shaven head

I had kept my hair long

Even though it deprived me of a great deal of work

Didn’t you know that if you shafted me

It would lead me to go berserk?

I had a heart and it was pierced

So I held a grudge and it was fierce

“Give me Liberty or give me death

For I will resist an unfair Military shaft

To my very last breath!!”

The shaft is what I call

The threat of a Military draft

I still have ptsd from my ordeal

Ptsd- Post Tramatic Stress Disorder

My very soul went under

Because why I couldn’t serve

In spite of my mane was a wonder

And a blunder

After all, I would become a three- time apocalyptic beast

And on your streets

There would be less peace

I could have been employed

Helping to guard the line

But your Military’s policies were unkind

And hardly anyone gave a damn

Just because I wasn’t a short- haired type of man

So, just in case you were wondering why you had to swerve

Or else screech hard on your car’s brakes

It was because you wouldn’t allow me to serve

And that was your big mistake!!

You might want to re- examine your Selective (Dis)Service laws

Because they are full of flaws

And that’s the Lion’s share of the reason

That I was driven insane from the psychological pain

I was in some ways the best

Yet in other ways the worst

So, do I deserve to be blessed or cursed?

I know this much-

I’ll receive better than I deserve

If it’s Jesus Christ that I choose to serve

Half Dome represents God’s Throne

And El Capitan is a long- suffering Lion King

Let freedom ring!!

When Jesus Christ returns out of the clouds

It shall usher in a new age (AC/ DC)

After Christ Descends from the Clouds
